Hampshire Boars

Welcome
Welcome
Welcome to our Hampshire web site. We have pictures and breeding information on our current herd sires, our foundation Hampshire sows, and several sows that will have offspring in our February 26 online auction. This will be our first online auction, but the 65th time Peter Farms has offered Hampshire breeding stock for public sale. We will have pictures and information on the individual gilts and barrows on www.showpig.com by February 20.
Black Label 5-1
Black Label x Foresite 40-1 Littermate
Black Label 5-1
This is our primary herd sire for fall 2009 & spring 2010 Hampshire litters. We purchased a breeding interest in this boar after seeing him at Hi Point's open house in 2008. Although he was only six months old, we felt he had the heaviness of skeleton, natural body width, muscle, and correctness of structure we wanted to incorporate into our herd. Additionally, Brent was very complimentary of the productivity and consistency of the Foresite 40-1 sow line of his dam. Black Label 5-1 has crossed very well on our sow herd. We have twenty five keeper gilts from the fall 2009 litters, and a deep consistent set of pigs for this sale from the November & December litters. There are several excellent show prospects on feed for spring 2010 shows in Texas & Oklahoma.

Sow Herd
Sow Herd
Our current sow herd numbers 60 Hampshire females. Nearly all of them trace back to three littermate daughters of DMP Peterbuilt, the Indiana Res Champion Boar purchased by SGI and used successfully in several herds during the early 2000's. The Peterbuilt sows were mated to Blockbuster and those mating produced a pair of littermate 8 litter sows and 3 littermate 11 litter sows. That generation of sows were then mated to EC Rocket, Winfield, Game Day, and Quiet Giant, Poweraid, and Power pac. Many of these females from those mating are the mature sows in our herd today. Our young sows are their daughters sired by Sweet Tea, Black Oak, and Old School. We have selected females from each generation that are correct in design: wide skeleton, long-fronted, level-made, with good muscle and above average bone. Combined with these sows Black label 5-2, and Old School 2 are well suited to produce high quality show pigs that can compete on any level.
9-1
EC Rocket X Big Foot
9-1
This Sow is one of the most influential sows in our herd. She has four daughters, 10 grand daughters, and a grandson in production at this time. Her design is flawless and she has weaned 9, 8, and 11 pigs on her last three parities. She farrowed a mid-November litter (16's) by her grandson Old School 2. We will offer three or four or her gilts in our online sale.
20-5
Sweet Tea X Rocket (9-1)
20-5
20-5 is a daughter of 9-1. She has been mated to Black Label 5-1 for all three of her litters. Litter 2 last January produced 4 keeper gilts, and a boar sold of Grenview Farms at the Illinois State Fair. We retained 3 more daughters from her July litter and sent and excellent barrow to Texas. She Has 2 Black Label 5-1 boars from her December litter. We will offer 3 gilts and 2 barrows online February 26th.
20-2
Sweet Tea X Rocket (9-1)
20-2
This is a littermate to 20-5 pictured above; she is the mother of Old School 2. Her litter 15 farrowed last November included 5 keeper gilts, and 2 WPX entries. Two December farrowed litters which contain her granddaughters will be offered in our online sale. She is bred to Affirmative for a Mid February litters.
4-5
Winfield 14-3 X Winfield
4-5
4-5 is a double bred Winfield tracing back to one of the 11 litter Blockbuster Sows. She is a littermate to a boar house at SGI. We retained 4 daughters from her November 2008 litter by Old School, 2 of them will have litter by Black Label 5-1 in our sale offering. We will have Gilts from her litter (17) Farrowed this November in the sale also.
14-2
Quiet Giant X Game Day
14-2
14-2 is a litter mate to Old School; her maternal Grandmother is one of the 3 littermate DMP Peterbuilt sows our herd has been built around. She Farrowed an excellent Black Label 5-1 litter this past August, that include three keeper gilts, an outstanding gilt being show in Oklahoma this spring, and our boar entry for Belton. She has been bred to DDW Cadet via frozen seamen for march.
Belton Entry
Black Label 5-1 X Quiet Giant
Belton Entry
This is an August son of the 14-2 sow pictured above mated to Black Label 5-1. He is our entry for the Hamp show at the Southwest Type Conference in Belton, Tx in March.
15-3
Winfield X Blockbuster
15-3
This foundation sow heads a sow family in our herd. She is sired by Winfield the Hogger son bred by Gary Settles and Housed at SGI. We used him heavily in our herd in the mid 2000's to maintain productive, add bone, and keep our sows durable and fertile. This sows mother was our most impressing Blockbuster sow. We have retained gilts from four matings, 3 Quiet Giant daughters, 3 Sweet Tea daughters, 2 Power Pac daughters, and 2 Old Schools. She is grandmother of the litter 18 that will be offered in our online sale.
24-2
Poweraid X Topper
24-2
24-2 also traces back to Blockbuster through her maternal grandmother. She farrowed an excellent Quiet Giant litter as a gilt last January, that included 3 replacement females. This summer she farrowed a Black Label 5-1 litter that we will keep gilts from. Her December litter (19) is our most promising litter by Black Label 5-1 to date. We are keeping 2 boars to show and there are 2 gilts and 2 barrows that will be offered in the online sale.
15-7
Quiet Giant X Topper
15-7
15-7 raised a litter of 9 early Jan pigs by Facelift. They look very promising and will be the oldest Hampshires for our 2nd online sale scheduled for April 12th at www.showpig.com.
